Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 21, 2026 · Effective: May 21, 2026

Short version: We collect only what's necessary to make Spottr work. We never sell your data. Firearm serial numbers are never required. Location data is used only while the app is open and is not stored on our servers. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time.

1. Who We Are

Spottr is a precision shooting application developed and operated by Sean Watson ("we," "our," or "us"), based in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. You can reach us at hello@my-spottr.com.

By downloading or using the Spottr application ("the App"), you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create a Spottr account, we collect your email address and a password (stored as a secure hash). We do not collect your full name unless you choose to provide it in your profile. We do not require any government-issued identification.

2.2 Shooting & Load Data

The core function of Spottr is to store data you voluntarily enter about your rifles, loads, and shooting sessions. This includes:

  • Rifle profiles (caliber, barrel length, twist rate, scope zero — no serial numbers required or stored)
  • Reloading recipes (cartridge, powder, primer, bullet, OAL, charge weight, case prep data)
  • Session logs (date, distance, weather conditions, group sizes, velocity statistics)
  • Ballistic solver inputs and computed firing solutions
  • Photos you choose to attach to loads or sessions (stored securely; never used for marketing)

Firearm serial numbers are never required and should never be entered into Spottr. If you enter a serial number, it is treated as ordinary text — but we strongly advise against it.

2.3 Location Data

The Range Finder feature requests your device's location to surface nearby shooting ranges, gun stores, and gunsmiths. Location access is:

  • Requested only when you actively use the Range Finder feature ("while using the app" permission, not background)
  • Used only to compute proximity to public points of interest
  • Not stored on our servers — your precise coordinates are processed on-device and are not transmitted to us
  • Never used for advertising, analytics, or user tracking

You can deny location access at any time in iOS Settings. Spottr will function fully except for distance sorting in the Range Finder.

2.4 Usage & Diagnostic Data

We collect minimal crash reports and performance diagnostics to fix bugs. This data is anonymized and aggregated. It does not include your shooting data, email address, or location. You may opt out in the App's settings menu.

2.5 Payment Data

Pro subscriptions are processed entirely through Apple In-App Purchase (IAP). We never see, store, or handle your credit card or payment information. All billing is managed by Apple and subject to Apple's privacy policy.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the data we collect exclusively to:

  • Provide and operate the Spottr application and its features
  • Sync your data across your devices (if you enable iCloud sync)
  • Generate AI-powered analysis of your session data (Pro feature; processed by Anthropic's Claude API — see Section 5)
  • Send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, early access notifications you've requested)
  • Diagnose and fix technical issues
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your data to serve ads. We do not build behavioral profiles for third-party purposes. We do not send unsolicited marketing emails.

4. Data We Do Not Sell or Share

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party — ever.

We may share data only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service providers: We use a small number of trusted infrastructure providers (cloud hosting, authentication). These providers process data only as instructed and under data processing agreements.
  • Legal requirements: If required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.
  • Business transfer: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, user data would transfer to the successor entity, which would be bound by this policy or a materially equivalent one.

5. AI Features & Third-Party Processing

Spottr Pro's AI Session Analysis feature sends your anonymized velocity and group size data to Anthropic's Claude API for analysis. Before this transmission:

  • Personal identifiers (email, account ID) are stripped from the payload
  • No rifle serial numbers or personally identifiable firearm records are transmitted
  • Anthropic's API data retention and privacy practices apply to data processed by their models — see anthropic.com/privacy

You can disable AI features entirely in Settings → Privacy → AI Analysis.

6. Data Retention & Deletion

Your shooting data is retained as long as your account is active. You can delete individual records (sessions, loads, rifles) at any time within the App.

To delete your account and all associated data permanently, go to Settings → Account → Delete Account, or email us at hello@my-spottr.com. We will complete the deletion within 30 days and confirm via email.

7. Children's Privacy

Spottr is not directed at children under 13 (or 16 in the EU). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with data, contact us immediately and we will delete it promptly.

8. GDPR Rights (EU/EEA Users)

If you are located in the European Union or European Economic Area, you have the right to:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Erasure: Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format
  • Objection: Object to processing of your data
  • Restriction: Request restriction of processing in certain circumstances

To exercise any of these rights, contact hello@my-spottr.com. We will respond within 30 days.

9. CCPA Rights (California Residents)

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), California residents have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect and how it is used and shared
  • Request deletion of personal information
  • Opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information)
  • Non-discrimination for exercising CCPA rights

To submit a CCPA request, contact hello@my-spottr.com with the subject line "CCPA Request."

10. Security

We implement commercially reasonable security measures including encrypted data transmission (TLS 1.2+), encrypted data storage at rest, hashed and salted passwords, and regular security reviews. No system is perfectly secure — if you discover a vulnerability, please report it responsibly to hello@my-spottr.com.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. Material changes will be communicated via in-app notification and email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of Spottr after that date constitutes acceptance.
